About

Hullo there! My name is Debbie Rodd.

I am the owner and operator of Rocky Mountains Quilting Tours which has been trading for the past five years.

In my previous life, I taught Textiles and Food for over 30 years.

I was fortunate enough to spend 2 years living in the Canadian Rockies -God’s OTHER country! My husband did 2 teaching exchanges in a town called Cochrane, which is in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

I absolutely loved my time in Cochrane, a regional town with so much atmosphere. I was also able to fuel my passion for quilting and I met a number of talented quilters over there, as well as visiting many wonderful quilting shops.

After leaving my Canadian friends and all the great experiences I had there, I felt that I really wanted to share this special place with other Australians.
So was born my idea to take quilters to the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

There is just so much to see and do there, in all seasons -but I wanted to base my first itinerary around a fabulous quilting exhibition called “The Festival of Quilts” in Calgary, in late May. This is the Spring Season, where the mountains are still dusted in snow, the land is greening up for summer and the hibernating animals are waking.  Just wonderful!

My second itinerary is for a Winter experience. There is just as much, if not more to do in Canada in winter!!

Of course the mountains look spectacular covered in snow and we are able to try lots of different winter activities. The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hosts an International Ice Carving Competition at that time -can you imagine an ice castle on the frozen Lake Louise? Well, they will have it there!     As well as full sized ice statues adorning the grounds of the Chateau.

Of course, I would love to plan an itinerary in the Canadian Rockies just for you and your friends. I spent many days taking my friends all over the Rockies and we had a ball.

So come along and join me for a great holiday experience! And meet the locals!!
